~ Discussion ~ Discussion Posts vs Book Reviews

Guys! This is my first discussion post and I am so excited for it! Over the past few months, I have done a lot of ‘research’ into book blogging and one of the major themes I picked up on was that book reviews were way less popular (stats-wise) than discussion posts. I pondered this and wondered what I would do with me my blog. More specifically, should I make more discussion posts than book reviews in an effort to raise my stats?

This was a hard question for me. On the one hand, I didn’t make this blog for the stats or the comments or the likes. On the other hand, I did make this blog to get involved in the book reviewing community and talk about books with said community. And this does require interaction through comments, likes, and whatnot.. What was I to do?

I finally decided that I would write more book review posts than any other type of posts. Really, the whole point of this blog is to have somewhere to talk about the books that I read and interact with other like-minded people around the topic of these books. The book reviews serve the purpose of giving me a way to talk about the books that I’ve read while discussion posts will give me the interaction that I want in the book reviewing community.

After making this decision, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to make my first discussion post about. I had just so many ideas! 🙂 I made a giant list of a lot of different ideas (which I can pick from in future discussion posts), but decided I wouldn’t use any of them. I would make my first discussion post about discussion posts in general and how they fit into the book reviewing community. So here we are! 🙂

What do you guys think about discussion posts? If you have a blog, do you use more of them than book reviews? If you spend a lot of time on book blogs, do you prefer discussion posts over book reviews or vice versa? Also, let me know if you have any suggestions for how I should structure my discussion posts in the future! 🙂
