GENRE: Historical Romance

MY RATING: FOUR (4) stars

Mired in scandal after his parents’ mysterious deaths, notorious gambler Lord Jarret Sharpe agrees to tamely run the family’s brewery for a year if his Machiavellian grandmother rescinds her ultimatum that he marry. But the gambler in him can’t resist when beguiling Annabel Lake proposes a wager. If she wins their card game, he must help save her family’s foundering brewery. But if he wins, she must spend a night in his bed. The outcome sets off a chain of events that threatens to destroy all his plans… and unveils the secret Annabel has held for so long. When Jarret discovers the darker reason behind her wager, he forces her into another one—and this time he intends to win not just her body, but her heart.

This is the second review I have written over one of Sabrina Jeffries’ books (Click HERE to magickally travel to the first review of the series). Although I really just became a fan of this author, I absolutely love her The Hellions of Halstead Hall Series. I adore the premise and especially Hetty Sharpe, the Sharpe’s feisty, independent grandmother… Anyway, let’s get into the thick of it, shall we?

A Hellion in Her Bed focuses on another of the Sharpe brothers – Jared Sharpe. As you read in the summary part of my post, Jared is a gambler and that is the main plot device that runs this whole book. The female main character of the book is Annabell and I loved the way the author wrote her character! She was, at times, shy and quiet, but, at others, she was playful and mischievous. I think the author paired the two of them well together. 🙂

I really enjoyed the plot device the author used – the wager(s) between Jared and Annabell. Although the feminist part of me was slightly upset over the lurking coercion in the action, I enjoyed it. It added humor, complexity, and depth to the story that might not have been there without it. All in all, I think that Sabrina Jeffries is an amazing author and I definitely will continue onto the third book in this series – How to Woo a Reluctant Lady! 🙂 That being said however…

I read my first review for this author over the first book in the series, The Truth About Lord Stoneville, and realized that I included a reason why I chose to give this author FOUR (4) stars instead of FIVE (5) stars. I give most of the books I read FOUR (4) stars, but it seems like so far on my blog Sabrina Jeffries’ book is the only one I have given FOUR (4) stars instead of FIVE (5) stars. 😦 I do feel like I need to explain myself… (see thoughts after the interesting tidbit section).

I really enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t Kresley Cole amazing, you know? Do you think that’s rude to say? I always feel like I’m might insult writers when I don’t give their novels FIVE (5) stars. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments. 🙂
