His powers – Inhuman…

His passion – Beyond immortal…

All her life, Ashlyn Darrow has been tormented by voices from the past. To end the nightmare, she has come to Budapest seeking help from men rumored to have supernatural abilities, not knowing she’ll be swept into the arms of Maddox, their most dangerous member – a man trapped in a hell of his own.

Neither can resist the instant hunger than calms their torments… and ignites an irresistible passion. But every heated touch and burning kiss will edge them closer to destruction — and a soul-shattering test of love…

Though they carry an eternal curse, the Lords of the Underworld are irresistibly seductive – and unimaginably powerful… Don’t miss the incredible new paranormal series from Gena Showalter!

MY THIRD REVIEW! YAY! 🙂 I think I’ll just jump right into it, if ya’ll don’t mind.

The Lords of the Underworld Series By, Gena Showalter has been on my TBR list for quite a while (at least a couple of years) and I’m finally getting around to it! 🙂 Gena Showalter is one of my top favorite authors (I’ve read her Imperia series as well as her Atlantis novels) and The Darkest Night reminds me so much of the sheer awesomeness of Kresley Cole’s novels. More specifically, I really enjoy world-building novels (like the Lore in Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark Series) and in this book, Gena Showalter builds an entire world with gods, and humans, and humans OH MY! 🙂 Hence the FIVE stars! 🙂

As you can tell by the summary I stole from Gena Showalter’s website above, this novel focuses on Maddox, the keeper of Violence, and Ashlyn. Let me back up a little… So, the Lords of the Underworld each hold (or host?) a demon that they all released from Pandora’s box forever ago (demons like Violence, Disease, Misery, and on and on…). Okay, enough background…

Although I generally dislike insta-love/insta-love novels (They’ve been seriously overdone), Gena Showalter makes Maddox’s and Ashlyn’s love story plausible even though there is a little bit of that insta-love/insta-lust. She (Gena Showalter) uses the distrust that Maddox and the other Lords have of humans because of the Hunters – their mortal enemies that seek to destroy them for releasing those demons on Earth. Essentially, they blame the Lords for all the evil and suffering on Earth. This distrust that Maddox has of Ashlyn (He thinks she’s Bait, one of the Hunters sent to infiltrate the Lords’ compound) slows down their love story and makes it way more plausible. Also, it really revs up the emotions you feel from the story as they slowly fall in love, trying to fight it the whole way. 🙂 All in all, it was a great beginning to what I know is going to be a wonderful, amazing series! 🙂

If you read any of the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter, what is your favorite book and why? (Avoid major spoilers please!) If you haven’t, is it on your TBR pile? Let me know in the comments! 🙂
